Women's Ice Hockey Host Boston College

PLAYOFF PICTURE: Maine, Providence and UConn are fighting for the final two playoff spots. New Hampshire and Boston College have clinched the top two spots. Maine hosts Boston College in their season home finale in a two game series, while Providence plays two games away at UConn this weekend.

SCOUTING THE BLACK BEARS: Maine turned up the heat in the playoff race by notching a late win at BU on Sunday. Rookie Patricia Gagnon netted the game-winning goal with just six seconds remaining to give the Black Bears a two-point edge on UConn for the fourth and final playoff spot. Kelly Law scored her seventh goal of the season and her 24th point in the win. Rachel Gettings improved to 6-1-1 with Sunday's win. Sheri Wauters scored Maine's lone goal in Saturday's 2-1 loss.

SCOUTING THE EAGLES: In another mark of a breakout season for Boston College, the Eagles won their first-ever Beanpot title on Tuesday, defeating seven-time defending champ Harvard 2-0 on the Crimson's home ice. Tourney MVP Deb Spillane had both goals and Alison Quandt stopped all 23 shots she faced. As if that wasn't enough, the Eagles went on to sweep three-time defending Hockey East champ Providence in a home-and-home series.

SENIOR DAY RECOGNITION: Maine will honor their three seniors before Sunday's face-off. Senior captain's Cheryl White and Morgan Janusc, and Amy Quirion will be recognizedin a pre-game ceremony.

CONFERENCE COMPARISON: In 19 games this season, the Maine Black Bears have scored 52 goals averaging 2.74 goals per game. Boston College averages 3.05 goals per game having scored 58 in 19 games. The Eagles defense has allowed 37 goals for a 1.95 goals against average compared the Black Bears who average 2.32 goals against allowing 44 in 19 games.

SPECIAL TEAMS: Maine has netted 23 power play goals in 127 attempts (.181) which is good for third in the Hockey East. Providence sits second with 25 just behind New Hampshire who has 28. The Eagles have netted just 13 goals on the power play in 91 attempts for a .143 average. BC edges Maine with their penalty kill unit having allowed 13 goals on106 chances (.877) with Maine allowing 15 goals on 97 chances (.845).

MAINE AND BC ALL-TIME: The Eagles and Black Bears will meet for the 22nd time in school history this weekend with the Black Bears holding the slight edge with a 10-7-4 all-time record.

The Black Bears host the Eagles on Saturday, Feb. 25 and Sunday, Feb. 26 at Alfond Arena. Both games have playoff implications and are set to face-off at 12:00 p.m.
