Women's Ice Hockey Announces Commitments
May 25, 2005 ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's ice hockey team has received National Letters of Intent from five student-athletes. Lundy Day, Patricia Gagnon, Chantal Jaillet, Genevieve Turgeon and Vanessa Vani have signed National Letters of Intent to attend Maine in the fall of 2005. Day is a goaltender from Calgary, Alberta. Last season she was MVP of the NEAA Calgary Flyers, posting a 13-5-2 record with a .914 save percentage as the team advanced to the MACs final. An honor roll student at Central Memorial High School, she has also played in numerous tournaments. Gagnon is a forward from Mont-Joli, Quebec. A three-time team MVP for Limoilou College, she had 184 points in four seasons. She was named a first team all-star in 2001-02 and a second-team all-star in 2002-03 and 2003-04. She also played in the 2004 Esso National Tournament, scoring three goals with two assists in seven games. A defenseman from St. Edouard de Kent, New Brunswick, Jaillet plays for Ecole Clement-Cormier. She was named the school's Athlete of the Year in 2003-04. Last season she had 31 goals and nine assists in 31 games played. In 2005 she played for Team Atlantic in the Canadian U-18 Tournament, with three points in four games. In the 2005 Esso National Tournament, she had six points in six games for Team New Brunswick. Turgeon is a goaltender from Lac Beauport, Quebec. She has played the last three seasons for Limoilou College with a 32-14-3 overall record. In 2004-05, she was a league all-star with a 9-5-0 record, 2.26 goals against average and a .917 save percentage. She was a second team all-star in 2003-04 with a 13-7-1 record and a 1.56 goals against average and .926 save percentage. A forward from Mississauga, Ontario, Vani was an assistant captain for the Mississauga Junior Chiefs. She played in 65 games with 20 goals and 30 assists. She also played for Team Ontario in the Canadian U-18 Championships, winning the gold medal. The eligibility of all student-athletes is contingent upon admission to the University of Maine and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
