Maine Women's Ice Hockey Announces Signings
Dec. 4, 2005 ORONO, Maine- The University of Maine women's ice hockey coach Guy Perron announced today that his program has received a National Letters of Intent from Taryn Peacock and Elyce Thomas to attend the University of Maine in the fall of 2006. "Peacock is a forward from Calgary, Alberta who brings speed and finesse up front. She is a hard worker with the ability to score goals," added Perron. Peacock was a member of the 2005 Alberta U-18 team which placed fourth at the Canadian Championships in Salmon Arm, was the leading scorer in 2004-05 for the Calgary PSA Chaos despite missing 19 games, and was a gold medal winner and the leading scorer at the 2004 Alberta Winter Games. In 2003, Peacock was named MVP of the Provincial Championships, MVP of the Stampede Challenge, and participated in the Calgary PSA Chaos Silver Minor Hockey Week. Peacock was leading scorer of her club team in 2003-04 and 2004-05. This season, Peacock was named captain of her club team and has netted eight goals and six assists in seven games. Peacock attends EDGE School in Calgary and played with current Maine freshman goaltender Lundy Day on a number of occasions, most recently in 2003-04. Peacock also works as an instructor during the summer months at the famed Okanagan Hockey School, and is a high level soccer player having played in several soccer provincial championships including the 2002 Alberta Summer games. "Thomas is a defenseman/forward from Port Coquitlam, British Columbia who brings size and strength to our squad. She is a versatile player excelling both as a defenseman and a forward," said Perron. Thomas played for Team British Columbia - 2003 through 2006, was member of U18 Team BC at the Canada Winter Games in 2003, a member of the 2004 Bronze Medal winning team in the Canadian U18 National competition in Salmon Arm, BC, a member of Team British Columbia at the Esso Women's Nationals in Sarnia, Ontario, and was the assistant captain of Team BC for the past two years. Thomas played Boys Hockey in Peewee and Bantam for the Port Coquitlam Pirates AAA in Tier 1 Lower Mainland BC. As a 14 year old, Thomas was the first-ever female to play in the Coveted Kamloops International Bantam Ice Hockey Tournament KIBIHT. After leaving Bantam Boys AAA Hockey, Thomas played for the New Westminster Royals in the 03-04 season, and the BC Breakers of the Western Women's Hockey League (WWHL) in 04-05 season with fellow team-mate and US Olympian Cammi Granato. Thomas currently plays with the Pacific Steelers Hockey Club as Assistant Captain. The eligibility of all student-athletes is contingent upon admission to the University of Maine and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
