Gebhart, 34, returns for her 12th season on the UMaine staff this fall. She brings with her an impressive work ethic and knowledge of the game.
Gebhart is a 1995 graduate of Lenoir-Rhyne College in Hickory, N.C., with a bachelor's degree in physical education. Prior to coming to Orono, she was at Appalachian State University pursuing her certificate in education which she received from UMaine in 1999.
As an undergraduate, Gebhart played for former UMaine Coach David Patterson while he was coach at Lenoir-Rhyne in the inaugural season of the women's soccer program. She was a four-year captain in addition to being named a three-time team Most Valuable Player, three-time All-South region and four-time All-Conference player.
The Ronkonkoma, N.Y., native is responsible for coaching goalkeepers and recruiting. While at Sachem High School she earned All-State, All-County and All-Conference honors. Gebhart helped lead the 1987 squad to the state championship and her '87 club team won the national championship.
Her coaching experience includes stints with an under-16 club team in Hickory, N.C., in addition to being director of the Catawba Valley Blast, a club team in North Carolina. Gebhart currently coaches the U-18 Premier Club team with the Blackbear United Football Club, founded by former men's soccer coach Travers Evans. The team won the state championship in the summer of 2005. She is also the head coach of the U-16 girls Blackbear United travel team. While at Lenoir-Rhyne, Gebhart was named interim head coach when Patterson left for UMaine. She has coached with the Maine Olympic Development Program for three years. Gebhart has also worked numerous camps and clinics in New York, North Carolina and Colorado.
Gebhart is single and resides in Orono.
