Women's Soccer Ties Temple

ORONO, Maine--The University of Maine women's soccer team tied Temple 2-2 in double overtime Friday afternoon. With the tie, the Black Bears remained undefeated with a record of 1-0-3. Temple went to 0-2-1 on the season. The Black Bears were led by Kelsey Wilson (Gorham, Maine) and Christine LaBelle (Nepean, Ontario) who each scored for Maine.

Nicki Conn (Morton, Pa.) scored for the Owls at the 18-minute mark, and then scored another less than a minute later to give Temple a 2-0 lead.

The Black Bears cut the lead in half just under 10 minutes later when Wilson headed one in to the left side of the net to beat Temple goalkeeper Kara Williams (Stratford, Conn.).

Senior captain LaBelle knotted the score when she headed home her first goal of the season 59 minutes into the game.

The teams played through two overtimes, but neither team was able to score.

Jasmine Phillips (Nepean, Ontario) made two saves in net for the Black Bears. For the game, Maine was outshot 13-9, but had seven shots on net to the Owls' three.

The Black Bears return to action on Sunday when they travel to play Iona at 12 p.m.
