Women's Soccer Downs Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y.--The University of Maine women's soccer team defeated Cornell by the score of 2-0 in Ithaca on Sunday afternoon. With the win the Black Bears go to 3-1-4 on the season while Cornell went 1-4-1. Maine was led by Christine LaBelle (Nepean, Ontario) and Véronique Fleury (Montreal, Quebec) each scored to lead Maine. Maine got on the board in the 11th minute when Cristina Di Ielsi (Laval, Quebec) passed the ball to a sprinting LaBelle who finished to the far post. Maine put the game away in the 73rd minute Fleury pounced on a loose ball in the box and knocked it in to give Maine a two-goal lead. Maine outshot Cornell 11-to-10. Jasmine Phillips (Nepean, Ontario) made four saves in net for her 31st career shutout. The Black Bears return to action on Sunday when they travel to UMBC to open up America East play at 12 p.m.
