Women's Soccer Downs Binghamton 2-0 Sunday

Oct. 21, 2007

Box Score

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine women's soccer team snapped a three-game winless streak on Sunday with a 2-0 blanking of Binghamton at Alumni Field in Orono. Maine improved to 5-6-3 on the season and 3-2-1 in America East play. The Bearcats dipped to 2-10-3 overall and 1-4-1 in the league.

Maine scored both of its goals in the second period to snap a scoreless tie and grab the victory. The scoring started for the Black Bears at the 54:48 mark with an unassisted goal by Laura Harper. Harper scored the tally off a header from a Kim Stephenson corner kick. Maine capped the scoring a little under four minutes later when Hannah Breton scored off a scramble in front the net caused by a deflected shot from Harper. Harper's shot from the right side of the goal deflected off Bearcat goalkeeper Jen McEachron which brought on a slew of players crashing to the net. Breton slipped the ball into the back of the net before two Bearcat defenders could cleared it out of the box.

Maine goalkeeper Jasmine Phillips made three saves in the contest. McEachron, her counterpart, also made three saves. Both teams logged 10 shots in the contest. Maine outshot BU 5-2 in the first 45 minutes, but the Bearcats outshot the Black Bears 8-5 in the final period.

Maine returns to action Thursday when it travels to Burlington, Vt., to face Vermont at 3 p.m. The Black Bears close out the regular season next Sunday with a 12 p.m., contest versus Stony Brook.
