Women's Soccer Blanks Albany 4-0
Oct. 28, 2004 ALBANY, N.Y.--Junior Heather Hathorn (Scarborough, Maine) scored a goal and added two assists to lead the University of Maine women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory over Albany on Thursday afternoon in Albany, N.Y. The Black Bears improve to 12-4-1 and 6-2 in America East play on the season with the win, while Albany falls to 2-17 and 0-8 in conference play. Maine opened the scoring late in the first half when Laura Harper (Ottawa, Ontario) scored in the 44th minute. Hathorn got the ball to Harper who chipped it over the head of the keeper from the right side to give Maine the 1-0 lead. For Harper, it was her sixth goal of the season. Maureen McHugh (Scarborough, Maine) added to the Maine lead less than six minutes into the second half. Hathorn crossed the ball and McHugh beat Albany keeper Catherine Nicholson for her second goal of the season. Hathorn gave Maine a 3-0 lead when she stole a clearing pass and beat Nicholson with a low short from 20-yards out at 67:29. For Hathorn, it was her ninth goal of the season. McKayla Bell (Waterford, Maine) rounded out the scoring with just 14 second left in the game when she scored off a rebound. For Bell, it was her first collegiate goal. Harper registered an assist on the goal. The Black Bears outshot Albany 27-2. Maine keeper Tanya Adorno (Farmington, Conn.) did not made save in the game. She improves to 10-4-1 on the season. The shutout was the ninth of the season for Adorno and 19th of her career. Albany keeper Nicholson made eight saves in goal for the Great Danes. Maine closes out the regular season when it travels to Stony Brook on Saturday, October 30 at 11:00 am. The Black Bears have already clinched a berth in the upcoming America East Tournament.
