Jasmine Phillips Named America East Player of the Week

Sept. 17, 2007

ORONO, Maine - University of Maine junior goalkeeper Jasmine Phillips (Nepean, Ontario) was named the America East Player of the Week on Monday for her outstanding performance this past weekend at the UB Fall Classic in Buffalo, N.Y. It's the first weekly award for the Black Bears this season.

Phillips posted a pair of shutouts this past weekend at the Classic as Maine went 1-0-1. The Black Bears opened play in the tournament on Friday with a 3-0 win over host-school and MAC-foe Buffalo. Phillips made all three of her saves in the second period, including one off a penalty kick, to lead the Black Bears to their first win of the season. She was just as spectacular on Sunday versus Big East-opponent St. John's. Phillips made nine saves in the contest, including five in the second period and one in each of the two overtimes to help preserve the 0-0 tie.

Phillips has allowed just one goal combined in her last three contests. She has given up a total of just five goals in six games this season. Dating back to the beginning of last season, Phillips has yielded a goal or less in 25-of-26 games, including 14 shutouts.

Maine returns to action this Friday when the Black Bears open their 2007 home schedule by playing host to Holy Cross at 3 p.m., at Alumni Field.
