Canuel Named to Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week
Oct. 12, 2005 University of Maine women's soccer sophomore midfielder Marie-Andree Canuel (St.-Jean-Chrysostome, Quebec) was named to the Soccer Buzz 2005 Elite Team of the Week for October 11. Canuel, the reigning America East Player of the Week, scored a hat trick in Maine's 6-0 win over Stony Brook on October 6. She then scored a goal and added an assist in Maine's 2-0 win over Hartford on Sunday. Canuel was one of 11 players named to the Elite Team of the Week and just one of two sophomores. The team is made up of players throughout the country. She joins players from Michigan State, Kansas, Charlotte, Columbia, Long Beach State, Arizona, Duke, California, Mississippi and Harvard. Canuel has six goals and two assists on the season for 14 points. She currently ranks tied for fifth on the Maine all-time goals scored list with 17. Maine's game, scheduled for Thursday, October 13 has been postponed due to predicted rain in the Albany area for Thursday. The game will be played on Friday, October 14 at 1:00 p.m. in Albany, N.Y.
