Canuel, Harper Earn NSCAA/adidas Honors
Dec. 4, 2006 ORONO, Maine- University of Maine women's soccer standouts Marie-Andree Canuel (St.-Jean-Chrysostome, Quebec) and Laura Harper (Nepean, Ontario) were each named to the 2006 National Soccer Coaches Association of America/adidas NCAA Division I Women's Northeast All-Region team. Canuel was named to the First Team, while Harper received Second Team honors. Canuel, who was named to the 2005 NSCAA/adidas Third Team, was an America East First Team selection in 2006. She started all 20 games for the Black Bears and scored four goals and added three assists for 11 points. Canuel was also named to the America East All-Academic Team and the ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team in 2006. Harper led Maine and the America East Conference in scoring in 2006 with 11 goals and two assists for 24 points. She was named to the 2006 America East First Team and the 2006 America East All-Academic Team. She also received ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. Canuel and Harper led Maine to a record of 14-4-2 on the season and a fourth straight berth in the America East Title game. The Black Bears set records in 2006 for wins in a season, fewest goals allowed in a season and tied the record for shutouts in a season. -U-M-
