![]() Softball Defeats Colby 5-2
April 19, 2005 Waterville, Maine - The University of Maine softball team scored two runs each in the first and third innings on the way to a 5-2 win over Colby on Tuesday afternoon at Crafts Field. The Black Bears have now won three straight games, as Maine is 12-18 overall on the season and 6-2 in America East action. In the first inning, Lauren Dulkis (Peabody, Mass.) and Amy Kuhl (Phoenix, Ariz.) had singles and were knocked in by Dana Grimm (Coopersville, Mich.) to take a 2-0 lead. Colby scored one run in the second inning as Alaina Clark hit a single to score Kara Fagan. In the top of the third inning, Brittany Cheney (Abington, Mass.) hit a single, which was followed by Kuhl reaching on a walk. Cheney scored on a passed ball. Kristie Hawkins (Portland, Maine) reached on a single and drove in Kuhl to take a 4-1 lead. For Colby in the bottom of the third inning, Miki Starr hit a single and was driven home on a single by Essie Widlanski later in the inning for a 4-2 score. In the fourth inning for the Black Bears, Jess Brady (Jackman, Maine) had a single, followed by a stolen base. Dulkis had a single which enabled Brady to score for a 5-2 lead. In the seventh inning, Rebecca Smith (Acton, Calif.) had her first career hit. On the mound for the Black Bears, Alexis Pullen (Augusta, Maine) pitched the first four innings and gave up two runs in the win. Candace Jaegge (Moorpark, Calif.) pitched the last three innings and had two strikeouts and only one hit allowed. Amanda Roehn had the loss for the White Mules.
