Mackenzie Brooks Signs Softball NLI to Continue Career at Maine
April 22, 2008
ORONO, Maine - University of Maine head softball coach Stacey Sullivan announced on Tuesday that Mackenzie Brooks has signed a National Letter of Intent to continue her softball career at the school beginning in the fall of 2008. A 5-6 catcher from Whitby, Ontario, Brooks was named the MVP of the 2007 International Cup as a member of the Whitby Eagles Gold softball team. She also earned the 2006 Top Batter Award at the Provincial Championships, and earned the Outstanding Athlete-of-the-Year award at Anderson Collegiate High School in 2005. "Kenzie will make an immediate impact on our program," Sullivan said. "She brings power at the plate from the left side and should be able to give our offense a boost from the middle of the lineup. Her abilities as a catcher are consistent and she boasts a strong arm that will undoubtedly help our defense. Her work ethic should allow her to compete for time immediately." Brooks is also a standout volleyball player who has earned numerous awards and accomplishments, including earning a gold medal at the 2008 Provincial Championships. All National Letters of Intent signings are contingent upon admission to the University of Maine and compliance with NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
