CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. - The University of Maine men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed on Friday night and Saturday at Boston College. The women swam a very close meet, falling 178-158. The Black Bear men were defeated 189-135. Maine was led by Tal Shpaizer winning three events and Nathan Richard and Meaghann Fisher each winning two events.

For the women, Colleen Miller (Missoula, Montana) started things off with a second place finish in the 1650 free with a time of 10:44.72. In the 200 IM, Tal Shpaizer (Shoham, Israel) won with a time of 2:12.38 and she also won the 100 butterfly in 1:00.35. She won her third event of the meet in the 200 back with a time of 2:10.10. Megan McLean (Walpole, Mass.) was second in the 100 backstroke in 1:13.39. In the 400 IM, Meaghann Fisher (Carmel, Ind.) took first place with a time of 4:41.56 and she added a first place in the 200 breast in 2:30.58. The Black Bears took the top three spots in the 200 free, as Colleen Miller was first in 1:57.68, Megan Wolters (Cleveland, Miss.) was second in 1:59.56 and Adi Levy (Givatayim, Israel) was third in 2:00.78. In the 50 free, Jessie Ellis-Alcaide (Harpswell, Maine) took first place in 24.95. Adi Levy added a second place finish in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:14.14. Kari Boffa (Falmouth, Maine) was second in the 100 free in 55.48, while Megan Wolters was third in the 200 back in 2:12.54. In the 500 free, Megan Wolters was second in 5:17.56 and Mackenzie Grobmyer (Charlottesville, Va.) was third in 5:24.71. Shannon Scott (Cumberland, Maine) was second in the one meter with 225.90 points and second in the three meter with 196.50 points. The Black Bears were second in the 200 medley, 400 free and 200 free relays.

 

 

In the men's meet, Brendan Amy (South Portland, Maine) was third in the 1650 free in 10:48.04 and had a time of 5:16.67 in the 500 free. Nathan Richard (Vergennes, Vt.) took first place in the 200 IM in 2:03.13, four seconds faster than the next finisher. Chris Card (West Bath, Maine) won the 100 breast in 1:01.73. Nathan Richard added a second place finish in the 100 butterfly in 53.92. Mike Goede (Omaha, Neb.) was second in the 200 free in 1:54.16. Freshman Cully Wakelin (Biddeford, Maine) led the way in the 50 free with a time of 23.02 and was second in the 100 free in 50.15. Freshman Jamison Young (Richboro, Pa.) was third in the 200 back in 2:09.80. Nathan Richard won his second event of the day with a time of 2:12.87 in the 200 breast, while Chris Card was second in 2:18.65. Isaac Forbes (Glenburn, Maine) was second in the three meter with 209.63 points and second in the one meter with 253.35 points. Maine was second in the 200 medley relay and third in the 400 free relay.
