Swimming and Diving Competes at America East Championships

Final Stats

Orono, Maine - The University of Maine women's 800 yard freestyle relay team jumped out to a great start Thursday night at Championships, finishing fourth place and setting a new school record. Both the men and women's teams ended the night in fifth place.

The team of Mimi Chovanec, Colleen Miller, Kari Boffa, and Mackenzie Grobmyer finished the relay in a time of 7:43.45, eclipsing the previous school record by 1.16 seconds. In the 200 yard medley relay, the women's team consisting of Courtney Healey, Megan McLean, Meag Fisher, and Miller took home a fourth place finish in 1:49.84.

The men's 800 free relay team touched the final wall in 7:03.68, which was good for fifth place. In the final event of the night, the men's 200 yard medley relay team made up of Jamie Young, Cully Wakelin, Kevin Staples, and John Quinn finished fifth in a time of 1:40.92.

In the one meter diving competition, senior captain Keith Burgie finished sixth, with a score of 241.00.
