Women Fall to Vermont 172-128

Orono, Maine - The University of Maine women's swimming and diving team fell to Vermont 172-128 Sunday afternoon. The loss marks the first for the Black Bears this season, now standing at 3-1, while Vermont improves their record to 5-5.

The Black Bears were led by Caitlin Shelley and Kerstin Fenton, each winning one event on Saturday. Shelley took the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:08.03 and Fenton won the 200 breast in a time of 2:28.54. Shelley added a third place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke and Fenton came in second in the 200 yard butterfly. Junior Colleen Miller placed second in the 50 (25.27), 100 (54.55), and 200 yard freestyles (1:55.74). Mimi Chovanec was the top distance freestyler on Sunday, finishing second in the 500, 5:11.93, and 1000 yard freestyles, 10:36.13. Meag Fisher (1:00.22) and Mackenzie Grobmyer (1:00.71) took second and third in the 100 yard butterfly. Samantha Graham and Laura Williamson finished second and third respectively, in both the one and three meter diving.

Maine will be back in action Monday November 19, when the travel to Bowdoin to face the Polar Bears. The meet will start at 5:30 p.m. at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, Maine.
