Swimming and Diving Falls to BU
Dec. 8, 2007 Boston, Mass - The University of Maine men's and women's swimming and diving teams both fell at Boston University today. The men's team lost 185-110, while the women lost 186-112. Senior co-captain Mike Goede led the men with a first place finish in the 50 yard freestyle (23.10) and a third place finish in the 100 yard freestyle (49.81). Co-captain Dustin Carrier brought home a third place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke in 2:20.67. Sophomore Cully Wakelin won the 100 yard freestyle (48.60) and placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:02.40). Freshmen Nick Ruckman turned in two third place finishes in the 50 yard freestyle (23.30) and the 100 yard butterfly (55.32). Sophomore Jamie Young finished third in the 200 yard backstroke (2:04.15) and fourth in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:39.67), while freshmen Jeremy Bender turned in a second place finish in the 200 yard butterfly (2:01.27). In the 100 yard backstroke, Tyler Isherwood finished fourth in 58.90. Keith Burgie led the way for the Maine divers finishing second in the 1 meter dives and third in the 3 meter dives. Isaac Forbes finished fourth in both diving competitions. For the second week in a row junior Courtney Healey won both backstroke events, winning the 100 yard event in 1:00.57 and the 200 yard in 2:08.75. Sophomore Megan McLean won the 100 yard breaststroke in 1:08.31. In the 200 yard freestyle Maine finished second, third, and fourth as Kari Boffa (2:01.08) finished second followed by Nissa Marione (2:01.82) and Sara Knight (2:03.67). Later in the meet Kari Boffa finished third in the 100 yard freestyle (56.25), followed closely by Samantha Bond at 57.37. Junior Colleen Miller placed third in the 1000 yard freestyle (10:46.40). Captain Kiki O'Donnell (2:29.05) and Caitlin Shelley (2:32.85) finished third and fourth in the 200 yard breaststroke and O'Donnell added a fourth place finish in the 200 yard butterfly (2:13.36). Mackenzie Grobmyer finished third in the 200 yard butterfly (2:11.94). Adi Levy placed third in the 100 yard butterfly in 1:01.03 and Nissa Marione finished fourth in 1:01.95. Samantha Graham led the divers as she finished third in both the 1 meter and 3 meter dives, scoring 208.28 points in the 1 meter and 215.55 in the 3 meter.
The Black Bears will break for final exams and winter break until they travel to Providence College on January 19, 2008. |
