Orono, Maine - The University of Maine head swimming and diving coach Skip Nitardy announced three early signings for the Black Bears. Alicia Hann (Falmouth, Maine), Danielle Gravel (Scarborough, Maine), and Lauren Thornbrough (San Diego, Calif.) will join the Black Bears in the fall of 2008. Hann will primarily swim freestyle and backstroke for the Black Bears when she arrives on campus next fall. "We look forward to Alicia having an immediate impact on our backstroke and sprint freestyle events," said coach Nitardy. Danielle Gravel will be looked upon to fill various roles for the Black Bears during the 2008-2009 season. "Danielle will be a nice versatile addition to our program," said Nitardy of Gravel, who will swim butterfly and IM primarily. Thornbrough will join an already solid distance freestyle group, and she will also swim butterfly alongside Gravel. "Lauren will be a great contributor to our team and is coming in with times placing her at the top of our conference," said Nitardy of Thornbrough. The eligibility of all student-athletes is contingent upon admission to the University of Maine and compliance with all NCAA rules, including registration with the NCAA Clearinghouse.
