Track Competes At Great Dane Invitational

NEW YORK, N.Y. - The University of Maine men's and women's indoor track and field teams competed in the Great Dane Invitational on Friday night at the New Balance Track and Field Center at the Armory in New York. The men were fourth overall with 76 points out of 22 teams, while the women were eighth with 29 points out of 18 teams. Maine's Lindsay Burlock, Kirby Davis, Arel Gordon, Scott O'Connor and Eric Libby picked up first place finishes in the meet.

In the women's meet, the Black Bears had a strong showing in the 800 meter seeded race, taking three of the top four spots. Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) was second in 2:10.88, Jessica Belliveau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) was third in 2:15.74 and Stephanie Jetter (Lovell, Maine) was fourth in 2:17.84. Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) won the 400 meters in 59.07. In the mile seeded race, Elonnai Hickok (Rutledge, Pa.) was fourth in 5:18.92. Brenna Walsh (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) was fourth in the 3000 meter seeded event with a time of 10:35.61. Vanessa Letourneau (Fairfield, Maine) was eleventh in the 500 meters in 1:18.52. Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick) was eleventh in the 200 meters in 25.99 and was twentieth in the 55 meters in 7.47. Also in the 200 meters, Jennifer Pierpont (Saco, Maine) was 32nd in 26.73 and Vicki Tolton (Smithers, British Columbia) was 21st in 10.62. In the field events, Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) was 13th in the high jump at 1.55 meters, Rachel McCaslin (Westbrook, Maine) was 18th in the long jump at 5.02 meters and Maegan Burke (Kennebunk, Maine) was 21st in the shot put with a throw of 10.62 meters.

 

 

For the men, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) won the 5000 meters with a time of 14:39.50, while Joshua Trevino (Rochester, N.H.) was fourth in the event in 15:08.00. Arel Gordon (Rochester, N.Y.) took first place in the 55 meters in 6.22, which set a new school record and was also a meet record. In the 800 meters, Scott O'Connor (East Greenville, Pa.) was a second faster than the field with a time of 1:55.03 for first place. In the 800 meters seeded event, Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) was first in 1:53.45. Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) and Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) were second and third, respectively in the mile seeded race with times of 4:14.02 and 4:16.94. In the high jump, Jeffrey Ramos (Turner, Maine) was second and Skip Edwards (Portland, Maine) was third as both had heights of 2.01 meters. Maxwell Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) was fourth in the 55 meter hurdles in 7.71, while Matthew Holman (Gardiner, Maine) was third in his heat of the 400 meters in 51.68. In the triple jump, Carson Hartman (Fort Kent, Maine) was eighth in 12.95 meters.
