Black Bears Track At Rhode Island

The University of Maine men's track team finished fifth with 59 points in the Rhode Island Invitational, while the women's team finished fourth with 64.33 points in the GoRhody Invitational, with both meets being held at the Mackal Fieldhouse at the University of Rhode Island. In the GoRhody Invitational, Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) took first place in the 800 meters with a time of 2:14.61. Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) finished third in the 400 meters in 59.10. In the 500 meters, Amanda Virgets (Stevensville, Md.) was eighth with a time of 1:20.88, while Kathryn Souviney (East Vassalboro, Maine) took eighth place in the 55 meter hurdles in 9.35. The Black Bear 4x400 relay was third and the 4x800 relay was fifth. In the high jump, Virgets tied for second at 1.55 meters and Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) was fifth at 1.55 meters. Shira Panelli (Salinas, Calif.) was seventh in the pole vault, clearing 3.00 meters. Silvia Scaldaferri (West Vancouver, British Columbia) was second in the long jump, going 5.29 meters. Stephanie McCusker (Lisbon, Maine) and Carly Bunyan (Troy, Nova Scotia) were fifth and sixth respectively in the triple jump. In the shot put, Micralyn Weichman (Buxton, Maine) was fourth with a throw of 11.94 meters and Mary McDonagh (Newton, Mass.) was seventh at 10.98 meters. For the men's team, Michael Lansing (Lovell, Maine) and Jeff Caron (Auburn, Maine) were fifth and sixth in the mile run with times of 4:17.72 and 4:19.30 respectively. Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) was eighth in the 500 meters in 1:07.85. Maine was strong in the 800 meters, as Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) and Scott O'Connor (East Greenville, Pa.) were sixth and seventh with times of 1:57.29 and 1:58.58. Paul Rupprecht (Yonkers, N.Y.) took second place in the 1000 meters with a time of 2:29.82 and Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) was fourth in the 3000 meters in 8:42.71. In the 55 meter hurdles, Nate Holmes (Westbrook, Maine) was sixth and Troy Irvine (Waterville, Maine) was eighth. The Black Bear 4x800 meter relay was second overall. Christopher Warren (Woburn, Mass.) was seventh in the high jump, clearing 1.93 meters and Irvine cleared 4.35 meters in the pole vault for third place. In the long jump, Jesse Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) was seventh with a jump of 6.24 meters. Anthony Morgan (South Portland, Maine) was seventh in the shot put and third in the weight throw.
