Tracks Runs Past Holy Cross

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine men's and women's indoor track teams hosted a meet in the Fieldhouse on Saturday afternoon against Holy Cross. The men picked up a 97-82 win, while the women won the meet 115-65. The Maine women swept the field events, while the Black Bear men excelled in the distance events.

For the women, Rachel McCaslin (Westbrook, Maine) took first place in 7.47 while Vicki Tolton (Smithers, B.C.) won the 200 meters in 25.97. In the 400 meters, Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) crossed the line in 1:00.61, just .07 seconds ahead of Holy Cross' Katie Spinelli. Shelby Howe (Columbia, Maine) was the top Black Bear finisher in the mile in 5:25.63 in second place. Amanda Virgets (Stevensville, Md.) was first in the 500 meters with a time of 1:18.01 and Kristen Vidlak (Thunder Bay, Ontario) was first inthe 800 meters in 2:17.06. The first place finishes continued in the 1000 meters, which was won by Heather Jovanelli (Brewer, Maine) in 3:03.27. Krista Ricupero (Southwick, Mass.) won the 3000 meters in 11:16.44 and Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) was first in the 60 yard hurdles in 8.71. The Black Bears won both the 4x440 relay and the 4x880 relays. Maine took first place in all the field events. ErinHatch won the high jump in 1.59 meters, while Heather Zavaduk (Smithers, B.C.) cleared 11-00 to win the pole vault. In the long jump, Rachel McCaslin (Westbrook, Maine) went 5.27 meters, while Stephanie McCusker (Lisbon, Maine) went 11.25 meters in the triple jump. Kathryn Souviney (East Vassalboro, Maine) was first in the shot put with a throw of 12.05 meters and Clarissa Michalak (Cumberland, Maine) had a throw of 15.28 meters to winthe weight throw.

 

 

In the men's meet, Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) won the mile in 4:15.23 and Daniel Voner (Hallowell, Maine) was first in the 500 meters in 1:06.74. Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) took first place in the 800 meters, while Scott O'Connor (East Greenville, Pa.) won the 1000 meters in 2:32.28. In the 60 yard dash, Montell Owens (Wilmington, Del..) was second in 6.68 and in the 200 meters Joseph Shepard (Westbrook, Maine) was second in 23.30. In the 3000 meters, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) took an early lead on the way to a first place finish in 8:45.90. Maxwell Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) won the 60 yard hurdles in 7.90 as Maine took the top four spots in the event. The Black Bears added first place wins in both the 4x440 relay and the 4x880 relay. Christopher Warren (Woburn, Mass.) won the high jump by clearing 1.91 meters. Maine took the top three spots in the long jump, led by Khabir Edwards (Portland, Maine) in 6.60 meters. Carson Hartman (Fort Kent, Maine) won the triple jump in 13.38 meters. In the shot put, Keith Corey (Scarborough, Maine) was first with a throw of 13.81 meters.
