![]() Women's Track Competes At Valentines Invitational

BOSTON, Mass. - The University of Maine women's indoor track and field team competed on Saturday in the Valentines Invitational hosted by Boston University. While no team scores were recorded, the Black Bears had several strong performances. In the 500 meters, Vanessa Letourneau (Fairfield, Maine) was ninth overall with a time of 1:18.05. Jessica Belliveau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) finished eleventh overall in the 800 meters in 2:14.67. In the 1000 meters, Stephanie Jette (Lovell, Maine) ran a time of 2:57.82 for eighth place out of 69 competitors. In the 55 meters, Rachel McCaslin (Westbrook, Maine) finished with a time of 7.51, while in the 200 meters Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick) had a time of 25.50. Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) finished the 400 meters in 59.21. Erin Hatch ran the 55 meter hurdles in 8.97, while Elonnai Hickok (Rutledge, Pa.) ran the mile in 5:14.22. Maine's 4x400 relay was twelfth overall. Erin Hatch opened the field events with a tenth place finish in the high jump at 1.63 meters. Allyson Thomas (Auburn, Maine) was fifteenth in the pole vault at 3.06 meters. In the long jump, Rachel McCaslin was twelfth with a distance of 5.20 meters and Jennifer Pierpont (Saco, Maine) was 23rd at 5.00 meters. Tess Perry (Farmington, Maine) and Tanya Simard (North Bay, Ontario) finished in the top twenty in the triple jump with distances of 10.59 meters and 10.53 meters, respectively. Micralyn Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) led Maine with a throw of 11.16 meters in the shot put. In the weight throw, Wiechman had a throw of 15.39 meters.
In addition, the men's distance relay competed on Saturday afternoon at the Valentines Invitational, with the Black Bears' team of Donald Drake (Portland, Maine), Scott O'Connor (East Greenville, Pa.), Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) and Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) finished third overall with a time of 9:56.51. The time set a new school record, topping the mark of 9:57.84 set in 1994. The men's and women's indoor track and field teams will compete in the America East Indoor Championships next weekend at Boston University.
