Track Opens Outdoor Season At Aztec Classic

SAN DIEGO, California - The University of Maine men's and women's outdoor track and field teams began the season at the Aztec Track Classic hosted by San Diego State University at the SDSU Sports Deck on Friday and Saturday. Kirby Davis led the team with a first place finish in the 5000 meters.

In the 400 meters, Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick) was seventh in the finals with a time of 59.94. Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) was third in the 800 meters in 2:11.43. Jessica Belliveau (Quispamsis, New Brunswick) ran the 1500 meters in 4:46.45 for a fourth place finish. Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) ran a 15.87 in the preliminaries of the 100 meter hurdles and was tied for second in the high jump at 1.60 meters. The Black Bears 4x400 relay team of Stephanie Jette (Lovell, Maine), Hana Pelletier, Jessica Belliveau and Allyson Howatt was third with a time of 3:58.16.

For the men, Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) was fifth overall in the 800 meters with a time of 1:59.24. In the 5000 meters, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) took first place in 15:06.27, winning by 22 seconds. Max Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) was fourth in the 110 meter hurdles in 15.22 and he was sixth in the 400 meter hurdles in 59.45. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine) was third with a time of 10:05.44. In the high jump, Jeff Ramos (Turner, Maine) was fifth at 2.00 meters.
