Track Competes At Sea Ray Relays

April 15, 2006

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - The University of Maine men's and women's outdoor track teams sent several members to Knoxville, Tennessee to participate in the Sea Ray Relays hosted by the University of Tennessee at Tom Black Track at LaPorte Stadium. The meet included teams from the ACC, SEC, Big East, Atlantic-10 and Big 10 among others. Unseasonably warm temperatures challenged the athletes in Knoxville, with the high reaching into the mid-80s and the wind gusting between 10 and 20 mph.

Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) ran the 800 meters and was twentieth overall with a time of 2:15.19. In the men's 1500 meters, Paul Rupprecht (Yonkers, N.Y.) was fourteenth overall in 3:53.66 and Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) was 28th overall with a time of 3:57.58. Rupprecht has the two fastest times in the 1500 this season in the America East conference. In the very competitive 5000 meter invitational race, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) was tenth overall in 15:07.71 and Jeffrey Caron (Auburn, Maine) was thirteenth overall with a time of 15:19.95.

Next up for the Black Bears, the team will participate in the Holy Cross Invitational on April 22 in Worcester, Massachusetts. For more information on University of Maine Athletics, please visit www.GoBlackBears.com.
