Track Competes At UMass
April 28, 2007 AMHERST, Mass. - The University of Maine men's and women's outdoor track and field teams competed at the University of Massachusetts on Saturday afternoon. The Maine women were fourth out of seven schools, while the men were seventh of nine schools competing. Maine was led with first place finishes by Erin Hatch, Katie Donnelly, Clarissa Michalak and Jeff Ramos. For the women, Maine's Elonnai Hickok (Rutledge, Pa.) was second in the 5000 meters in 17:55.84 while Brenna Walsh (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia) was fourth in the event with a time of 18:49.59. In the 3000 meter steeplechase, Erin Lawler (Jay, Maine) was third overall in 11:55.61. The Black Bears earned most of their point in the meet during the field events. Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) won the high jump at 1.65 meters and Katie Donnelly (Westbrook, Maine) won the triple jump with a distance of 10.70 meters. Clarissa Michalak (Cumberland, Maine) took first place in the hammer throw at 50.45 meters. Kayla Rubin (Sanford, Maine) was fourth in the javelin at 33.6 meters. The men were also led by the field events. In the high jump, Jeff Ramos (Turner, Maine) was first by clearing 1.96 meters and Christopher Warren (Woburn, Mass.) was fourth by clearing 1.86 meters. Toby Poirer (Lewiston, Maine) was third in the javelin with a throw of 56.87 meters. On the track, Jonathan McGonagle (Portland, Maine) was fourth in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 9:53.08. Christopher Harmon (Scarborough, Maine) was third in the 5000 meters with a time of 15:44.2 and Christopher Warren was third in the 110 meter hurdles in 15.40.
The men's meet was won by Massachusetts with 147 points. New Hampshire was second with 126 points, followed by Connecticut with 64 points, Harvard with 56 points, Vermont with 50 points, Central Connecticut State with 45 points, Maine with 41 points, Hartford with 36 points and Stony Brook with 20 points. The women's meet was won by New Hampshire with 207.5 points, followed by Massachusetts with 109 points. Harvard was third with 103.5 points, Maine fourth with 58 points, Vermont fifth at 45 points, Hartford sixth with 30 points and Stony Brook seventh with 28 points.
