![]() Track Competes at Penn Relays

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Several members of the University of Maine men's and women's outdoor track teams participated in the 112th Penn Relays that were held Thursday through Saturday at Franklin Field and hosted by the University of Pennsylvania. In the women's 4x100 relay, Kathryn Souviney (East Vassalboro, Maine), Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine), Samantha Homer (Charlton, Mass.) and Rachel McCaslin (Westbrook, Maine) finished in 49.14 to take second place in their heat. The 4x400 relay team of Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine), Amanda Virgets (Stevensville, Md.), Kristen Vidlak (Thunder Bay, Ontario) and Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) were fifth in their heat with a time of 3:56.30. In the 4x200 relay, Maine was sixth in their heat, which included Stanford and Indiana. The team of Samantha Homer, Erin Hatch, Rachel McCaslin and Amanda Virgets finished with a time of 1:45.97. In the final event of the meet for the women, the team of Heather Jovanelli (Brewer, Maine), Kristen Vidlak, Lindsay Burlock and Hana Pelletier finished the 4x800 relay with a time of 9:06.65. For the men in the 4x100 meter relay, Troy Irvine (Waterville, Maine), Joe Shepard (Westbrook, Maine), Khabir Edwards (Portland, Maine) and Carson Hartman (Fort Kent, Maine) finished in 44.32 to take seventh place in their heat. The 4x200 relay team of Khabir Edwards, Max Ludwig (South Portland, Maine), Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) and Joe Shepard ran in the first heat against schools such as Texas and Louisiana State University and finished seventh in 1:30.60. In the 4x400 meters relay, the team of Eric Libby, Daniel Voner (Hollowell, Maine), Matthew Holman (Gardiner, Maine) and Khabir Edwards finished third in their heat with a time of 3:24.10. The men's distance relay team was twentieth overall with a time of 10:02.50 as the team of Paul Rupprecht (Yonkers, N.Y.), Matthew Holman, Eric Libby and Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) competed against schools such as Tennessee, Kentucky, Boston College, Clemson, Georgia Tech and Cornell. In the men's 4x800 meter relay, the team of Eric Libby, Paul Rupprecht, Daniel Voner and Donald Drake was seventh in their section of fifteen teams with a time of 7:43.35 Dzigbodi Ababio (Willingboro, N.J.) competed in the shot put and had a strong show, placing twelfth out of 30 competitors with a throw of 15.04 meters.
