Track At Wildcat Invitational and SeaRay Relays

The University of Maine men's and women's track and field teams participated in the Wildcat Invitational II on Saturday at New Hampshire, while nine members of the team took part in the SeaRay Relays held at the University of Tennessee. In the first appearance at the SeaRay Relays for the Black Bears, four school records were set as Mike Lansing and Kathryn Souviney qualified for the NCAA Regionals.

At the SeaRay Relays, Kathryn Souviney (East Vassalboro, Maine) set a school record with 4705 points in the hepthalon while finishing seventh place overall. On the first day of the event, she ran a 13.86 in the 100 meter hurdles, which set a school record and qualified her to run the event at the NCAA Regionals in New York on May 28. Mike Lansing (Lovell, Maine) set a school record in the 3000 meter steeplechase in 8:57.73 to finish fourth and qualify for the NCAA Regionals. The men's distance medley team of Paul Rupprecht (Yonkers, NY), Scott O'Connor (East Greenville, Pa.), Donald Drake (Portland, Maine) and Andy Caron (Topsham, Maine) set a school record with a time of 9:57.89 for a fifth place finish. The same relay team was seventh in the 4x800 meter relay in 7:48.74. Hana Pelletier (Belgrade, Maine) was fifth in her section of the 800 meters, running a season best 2:11.99. In the triple jump, Stephanie McCucker (Lisbon, Maine) had a season best jump of 37-6 to finish tenth. Anthony Morgan (South Berwich, Maine) threw the hammer a season long 155-7.

For the women at the Wildcat Invitational II, Micralyn Wiechman (Buxton, Maine) took first place in the shot put with a throw of 11.88 meters. In the 100 meters, Rachel McCaslin (Westbrook, Maine) was fifth in 13.83. Lindsay Burlock (Caribou, Maine) was second in the 400 meters with a time of 59.11. Heather Jovanelli (Brewer, Maine) took second place in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:44.31. In the 5000 meters, Miranda Szewc (Bangor, Maine) was sixth overall with a time of 18:56.56. Erin Hatch (Saco, Maine) was fourth in the 100 meter hurdles with a time of 15.84 and also was fifth in the high jump, clearing 1.54 meters. Jessica Hudec (Chicago, Ill.) was sixth in the 3000 meter steeplechase and Silvia Scaldaferri (Vancouver, British Columbia) was third in the long jump at 5.50 meters. In the triple jump, Carly Bunyan (Troy, Nova Scotia) was third in 10.65 meters

For the men's team at the Wildcat Invitational, Ivi Nwosu (Bridgewater, Mass.) was third in the 100 meters with a time of 11.62. In the 200 meters, Sydney Harrison (Phippsburg, Maine) was fifth in 23.06, while Eric Libby (Hampden, Maine) was fifth in the 400 meters in 50.97. Ian Fraser (Brewer, Maine) was fourth in the 800 meters with a time of 1:58.97 and David Woods (York Beach, Maine) was fourth in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:03.94. In the 5000 meters, Kirby Davis (Falmouth, Maine) was third with a time of 15:15.42 and in the 10000 meters, Charles Therriault (Amherst, Mass.) was third in 33:50.02. Christopher Warren (Woburn, Mass.) took third place in the 110 meter hurdles in 15.79 and was sixth in the high jump, clearing 1.85 meters. In the pole vault, Troy Irvine (Waterville, Maine) tied for first place with a vault of 4.25 meters. Jesse Ludwig (South Portland, Maine) was third in the long jump at 6.32 meters and second in the triple jump at 13.28 meters.
