Track and Field Teams Gearing Up For ECAC/IC4A Championships
May 12, 2008
ORONO, Maine-- The University of Maine men's 4x100 relay team had a great weekend, winning the New England Championship. The team of Landis Williams (Pemberton, N.J.), Dominic Cusano (Wallingford, Conn.), Jhamal Fluellen (Lockport, N.Y.) and Andrew King (Ewabeach, HI) ran in a time of 42.02, finishing just shy of the school record of 41.68 set in 1988. The track and field teams return to action this weekend when they travel to Princeton, N.J., to compete in the ECAC/IC4A Championships. Among the standouts attending will be Allyson Howatt (Fredericton, New Brunswick) who is coming off an America East Championship meet where she won the 100 and 200 meter dashes, and anchored the winning 4x400 meter relay team. She was named the women's Outstanding Track Performer of the meet. Other standouts going on the women's side include Vicki Tolton (Smithers, British Columbia) and Lindsay Burlock, who finished first and second, respectively, in the 400 meter dash at the America East Championships. They were also on the victorious 4x400 meter relay team. Vanessa Letourneau (Fairfield, Maine) will also be going to run a leg of the 4x400 relay. Rebecca Even (Stoneham, Mass.), a freshman, will be participating in the women's hammer throw. On the men's side, Skip Edwards (Portland, Maine), who was second in the 400 meter dash at the conference championship meet, will be participating as well as Miles Bartlett (Casco, Maine), who finished third in the steeplechase. Newly crowned America East 400 meter hurdles champion Matt Holman (Gardiner, Maine) and Dan Poirier (Lewiston, Maine), who was second in the javelin at the conference meet, will be going as well.
