Volleyball Falls to 0-2 in Conference Play

VESTAL, New York - The University of Maine volleyball team dropped a 3-1 (25-30, 30-28, 23-30, 22-30) decision to Binghamton on sunday morning. Maine fell to 1-14 on the season, 0-2 in America East, while Binghampton improved to 8-12, 2-0 in America East. Maine was led in kills by junior Lindsay Allman who had a match-high 26. Classmate Amy Lawson and sophomore Jennifer Domer followed her with 15 and 10, respectively. Freshman Emily Root led the Black Bears with a match-high 17 digs. Freshman Paige Tortorello recorded a team-high 31 assists followed up by junior Jessica Wolfenden with 19. Junior Brittany Kiehl blocked a team-high six attacks for the Black Bears. Binghamton was led in kills by Kathleen Schauer who posted 15. Ashley Allen and Jacki Kane each added 11 kills of their own in the match. The Bearcats were led in assists by Lindsey Mueller who had a match high of 47. Mueller also led the team in digs with 16. The Bearcats seemed to have Maine's number early when they took a 30-25 first game decision. But Maine fought right back in the second game making it a close one but edging out the Bearcats 30-28. From there on out the Black Bears couldn't put many runs together. They were making less errors but also attacking a lot less. They lost the next two games 23-30 and 22-30. The Bearcats' blocking seemed too much for Maine as they out-blocked the Black Bears 14-8. The Black Bears' next match will be away atAlbany and UNH on October 7 and 9, respectively. Maine's next home match will be against the Hartford Hawks on friday October 12.
