Volleyball Drops Narrow Decision to UMBC
Oct. 5, 2008 Baltimore County, Maryland - The University of Maine volleyball team lost a hard fought match to UMBC in five sets. Maine (7-9, 0-2 AE) dropped the first two sets by scores of 22-25 and 18-25, but rallied to take the next two sets 25-19 and 25-17. The Retrievers (12-6, 2-0 AE) ultimately won the match with a 10-15 victory in the fifth set. Brittany Kiehl (Virginia Beach, Va.) led the Black Bears with 15 kills. Lindsay Allman (St. Louis, Mo.) had a standout performance with 13 kills and a team-high 18 digs. Ashlee Wright (Muncie, Ind.), Megan Smith (Dayton, Ohio) and Jessica Wolfenden (Ottawa, Ontario) each finished with 14 digs. Wolfenden also led the Black Bears with 42 assists. Amy Lawson (Coeur D'Alene, Idaho) had 11 kills. UMBC was led by Bridget Scheetz (St. Louis, Mo.) with 17 kills. Maine will try for their first conference win when they travel to Binghamton on October 10th to take on the Bearcats at 7 pm. --UM--
