Oct. 8, 2007

Box Score

DURHAM, N.H. - The University of Maine volleyball team fell to rival University of New Hampshire by a 3-1 (26-30, 19-30, 32-30, 25-30) decision on Monday night. Maine fell to 1-16 on the season and 0-4 in America East, while New Hampshire improved to 13-6 and 2-2 in America East.

Maine was led in kills by junior Lindsay Allman who talied a match-high of 21. Classmate Jessica Wolfenden added 11 of her own. Freshman Emily Root led the Black Bears with 17 digs. Allman and Wolfenden each added 13 digs of their own. Freshman Paige Tortorello recorded a career-high 44 assists for the Black Bears. Junior Amy Lawson recorded six blocked attacks in the match.

New Hampshire was led in kills by Lindsay Fogarty who posted 16. Toni Barnas and Emmy Bouin each added 12 kills of their own in the match. Fogarty also had three service aces in the match. The Wildcats were led in assists by Brooke Stanley who had a match high of 51. Alyse Lahti and Sara Heldman each recorded a match-high 19 digs.

The first game was a close one with not many kills. Maine tallied 10 kills and UNH had 11 in the game. But Maine's 14 attack errors became the advantage for the Wildcats. The second game saw the Wildcats taking a two game lead in the match with a final score of 30-19. But Maine came roaring back. In the third game, the Black Bears tallied 20 kills with junior Lindsay Allman leading the way with seven. There was nothing UNH could do and Maine took a close one 32-30. The fourth game saw two teams that were seemingly equal. Maine's 18 kills just edged out UNH's 17 but the Wildcats came away with the match with a 30-25 decision. Maine will get another chance at rivals UNH when the Wildcats come to the Pit on Saturday October 20.

The Black Bears' next matches will be home on Friday night against the Hartford Hawks and Sunday afternoon against the Stony Brook Seawolves. The matches signal Maine's return to home after 10 straight away matches.
