Box Score

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine volleyball team pulled off its third-straight sweep Sunday, as it handed Hartford a 3-0 loss (30-18, 30-19, 30-20) Sunday afternoon at Memorial Gym. Maine improved to 6-8 overall and 3-0 in America East action.

The Black Bears, who have yet to lose a game in conference play this season, have won five of their last six matches after starting the season with a 1-7 record. Hartford fell to 8-11 overall and 0-3 in America East.

Senior co-captain Leah Guidinger (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) led Maine with a match-high 12 kills, while classmate Shannan Fotter (Riverside, Calif.) added 11. Senior co-captain Kaili Jordan (Raymore, Saskatchewan) had 10 kills and four blocks. Junior Shelly Seipp (Spokane, Wash.) totaled 43 assists and five service aces, including three to begin the first game. Hartford was led by Jennifer Monroy and Mary Francis Feldman, who each contributed nine kills.

Seipp's three service aces to begin the first game set the tone for the day, as Maine came away with a 30-18 victory. The Black Bears scored 10 of the game's first 12 points and never looked back. Fotter, Jordan and Amy Lawson (Coeur D'Alene, Idaho) each registered four kills during the game.

Hartford regrouped in the early portion of the second game and tied it at 10, but the Black Bears went on a 9-3 run to pull away and take the contest by a count of 30-19. Lindsay Allman (Fenton, Mo.) had a service ace during the crucial stretch, while Fotter and Guidinger had two kills apiece.

The Hawks, again, started off the third game strong and took a 5-3 lead. However, Maine answered and scored seven of the next eight points to go up 10-6 and never looked back in taking a 30-20 decision. Lawson had three kills and two blocks in the game.

Maine will be on the road next weekend for a pair of matches. The Black Bears will face Binghamton on Friday at 7 p.m., and will follow with a 1 p.m. match on Sunday at Stony Brook.
