Volleyball Shuts Out Hartford 3-0

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine volleyball team defeated conference rival University of Hartford by a 3-0 (30-27, 30-24, 30-26) decision on Friday night. Maine improved to 2-16 on the season and 1-4 in America East, while Hartford fell to 7-14 and 0-4 in America East. Maine was led in kills by junior Jessica Wolfenden who talied a match-high of 14. Classmate Lindsay Allman added 12 of her own. Freshman Emily Root led the Black Bears with 14 digs. Allman and Wolfenden each added dig totals of 10 and 9, respectively. Freshman Paige Tortorello recorded a career-high and match-high 47 assists for the Black Bears. Junior Amy Lawson recorded three blocked attacks in the match. Hartford was led in kills by Erin Macro who posted 11. Maddison Molyneux added 10 kills of her own in the match. The Hawks were led in assists by Lindsay Ford who totalled 27. Sarah Boss tallied a match-high 20 digs.
Maine led the first game from the get-go and never looked back. Maine tallied a match-high 22 kills in the game compared to Hartford's 16. Lindsay Allman had a game-high six kills with Jessica Wolfenden and Jennifer Domer adding five of their own on the way to winning the game 30-27. The second game looked a lot closer on paper. But Maine rolled in the game doubling up Hartford's attack errors 10 to their five. Paige Tortorello had 13 assists in the game matching UNH's team total to help the Black Bears win the game 30-24. In the third game, Maine held off a charging Hawks team to take the match. Hartford's 20 kills weren't enough for Maine's will to win and the Black Bears took a 30-26 third game. Maine will play Hartford again on November 4 in West Hartford, CT.
The Black Bears' next match will be at home against the Stony Brook Seawolves on Sunday October 14. The Seawolves enter into the Pit with a 14-7 record and 2-1 in America East.
