ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine volleyball team dropped a tough four-game match (3-1) to defending America East regular season champion Albany on Friday night at Memorial Gym. Albany improved to 11-8 and 4-1 in conference play. Maine was led in kills by a trio of sophomores, including Lindsay Allman (Fenton, Mo.), Jessica Wolfenden (Ottawa, Ontario) and Brittany Kiehl (Virginia Beach, Va.). Allman tallied a match-high 18 for the second-straight match, while Wolfenden and Kiehl had 15 and 14 kills, respectively. The Black Bears found themselves trailing late in the first game by a score of 26-25. However, the Black Bears mounted a 5-2 run the rest of the way to pull out the win. Wolfenden totaled five kills in the game, while Allman had four. Maine held a slim 25-24 advantage in the second game as it tried to go up 2-0 in the match. But the Great Danes responded and scored six of the final eight points in the game to even the match at one game apiece.
The third game was just as exciting as Albany pulled out a 33-31 win to go up 2-1. The Black Bears held a 27-23 advantage, but Albany closed out the game on a 10-4 run. The late run for Albany was sparked by a kill from Hillary White. The Great Danes led the entire way in the fourth game and deciding game as they pulled away for a 30-16 win.
