Volleyball Downed By Stony Brook 3-0

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to conference rival SUNY Stony Brook by a final score of 3-0 (24-30, 16-30, 18-30) on Sunday afternoon. Maine fell to 2-17 on the season and 1-5 in America East, while Stony Brook improved to 16-7 and 4-1 in America East. Maine was led in kills by junior Brittany Kiehl who tallied nine. Classmate Amy Lawson added eight of her own. Junior Jessica Wolfenden led the Black Bears with seven digs. Freshman Paige Tortorello recorded 28 assists for the Black Bears. Stony Brook was led in kills by Morgan Sweaney and Jackie Ahlers who each posted a match-high 13. The Seawolves were led in assists by Lindsay Ford who totalled a match-high of 33. Noelle Bay tallied a match-high 11 digs. Maine was able to hang in with Stony Brook in the beginning. The first game saw the Black Bears only losing 30-24. The second and third games were all Stony Brook when the won by scores of 30-16 and 30-18. Maine will next see the Seawolves at Stony Brook on November 2. The Black Bears' next match will be at home against rivals University of New Hampshire Wildcats on Saturday October 20 at 4pm.
