Volleyball Downs Stony Brook 3-2

Orono, Maine - The University of Maine volleyball team won in five sets over visiting Stony Brook on Friday night. The Black Bears (8-10, 1-3 AE) stumbled in the first set 18-25, but rebounded with a 25-18 win in the second. The Seawolves (9-13, 0-4 AE) stole the third set 22-25 to put Maine's back up against the wall. The Black Bears responded with a 25-21 win in the fourth set and a 16-14 win in the fifth to seal the victory. Lindsay Allman (St. Louis, Mo.) led Maine with 18 kills, 18 digs and three served aces. Laura Goettsch (Woodstock, Ontario) had 12 kills and Amy Lawson (Coeur D'Alene, Idaho) had 10 in a Maine offense that finished with a .282 attack percentage. Jessica Wolfenden (Ottawa, Ontario) orchestrated the attack with 46 assists and 11 digs. Ashlee Wright (Muncie, Ind.) finished with nine digs. A key component in the win was Maine's nine served aces. The Black Bears hope to keep the wins rolling as they welcome Hartford to Orono on Sunday, October 19, at 2 pm. --UM--
