Volleyball Falls to Rivals UNH 3-0

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to conference rival New Hampshire by a final score of 3-0 (21-30, 24-30, 27-30) on Saturday afternoon. Maine fell to 2-18 on the season and 1-6 in America East, while New Hampshire improved to 15-7 and 4-3 in America East. Maine was led in kills by junior Lindsay Allman who tallied12. Classmate Amy Lawson added nine kills of her own. Junior Ashlee Wright led the Black Bears with 13 digs. Freshman Paige Tortorello recorded 37 assists for the Black Bears. Lawson also added 5 attacks blocked for Maine. New Hampshire was led in kills by Kirsten Bates who posted a match-high 15. The Wildcats were led in assists by Kat Uitti who totalled a match-high of 40. Alyse Lahti tallied a match-high 19 digs. In all three games it remained tight in from the get-go with neither team taking a large lead. In the first game UNH broke away later in the game to take it by a score of 30-21. The Wildcats totalled 21 kills in the game. The second game was even closer than the first but still UNH managed to pull away to win 30-24. Maine outkilled UNH 15-14 in the game. In the third and final game, it was close all the way until the very end. UNH managed to pull string some points together to take the game and the match 30-27. Maine outblocked UNH 8-3 but the Wildcats had 55 kills to Maine's 43. The Black Bears' next match will be at home against conference rivals Binghamton and UMBC next weekend on October 26 and 27. The matches will both be at 7pm in the Pit.
