Box Score

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine volleyball team was swept, 3-0, by defending America East champion Albany on Friday at Memorial Gym in Orono. The Great Danes won by scores of 30-28, 30-27 and 30-26 to improve to 19-3 overall and 5-1 in the league. The Black Bears dropped their third-straight and fell to 6-11 and 3-3 in America East.

Senior Shannan Fotter (Riverside, Calif.) led Maine with 15 kills, while Leah Guidinger (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) and Kaili Jordan (Raymore, Saskatchewan) added 12 and 11, respectively. Jordan also had a team-high two blocks in the match.

A kill by Shelly Seipp (Spokane, Wash.) late in the first game staked Maine to a 25-21 advantage. However, Albany responded by going on a 6-1 run, capped by a Shelby Goldman kill, to take a 27-26 edge. Amy Lawson (Coeur D'Alene, Idaho) added a kill for Maine moments later to tie it at 28, but Albany scored the final two points to take the game.

The second game was just as close as neither team had a lead larger than three points. Brittany Kiehl's (Virginia Beach, Va.) kill late in the game tied it at 26 for Maine, but the Great Danes score four of the final five points to pull out the game and take a 2-0 lead.

Albany took control in the early going of the third game and eventually jumped out to a 20-13 lead on an attack error by Kiehl. Maine mounted a rally and came within two at 23-21 on a Guidinger kill. However, that was as close as the Black Bears would come, as an Ashley Crenshaw kill late in the match sealed the win for Albany.

Ashley Hunter led Albany with 20 kills, while Goldman added 14. Blair Buchanan had 32 assists and three service aces for the Great Danes.

Maine returns to action Sunday when it travels to West Hartford, Conn., to face Hartford in a 1 p.m. match. The Black Bears swept the Hawks three weeks ago in Orono.
