Volleyball Falls in Four Games at Long Island

BROOKLYN, N.Y. - The University of Maine volleyball team dropped a 3-1 decision at Long Island in Brooklyn on Saturday night. Maine fell to 4-16 overall, while staying at 2-4 in America East play. It was the Black Bears final non-conference match of the regular season. Maine fell by scores of 30-27, 24-30, 24-30 and 17-30. Brittany Kiehl (Virginia Beach, Va.) led Maine with 13 kills, while Laura Goettsch (Woodstock, Ontario) added 10. It marked the second-straight match Goettsch recorded double-digit kills. She also had three blocks in the contest. Senior Shelly Seipp (Spokane, Wash.) had 40 assists in the match. Maine took a 1-0 lead in the match with a 30-27 victory in game one. It marked the second-straight match that the Black Bears won the first game to go up early. However, Long Island regrouped with two-straight 30-24 wins. LIU pulled out the win in the match when it recorded a 30-17 victory in game four.
The Black Bears return home to face Stony Brook on Friday at 7 p.m., at Memorial Gym.
