Black Bears Drop Match to Northeastern
Oct. 22, 2004 ORONO, Maine - Senior Brittany Howe (Columbia, Maine) had 10 kills, but it was not enough as the University of Maine volleyball team fell to Northeastern, 3-0 (30-24, 30-20, 30-28), on Friday evening at Memorial Gym. The Black Bears (11-9, 3-3 America East) staged a comeback in game three, but the Huskies (14-8, 5-1) recovered for the victory. Northeastern raced out to a 20-10 advantage in the first game. Maine rallied behind three straight service aces from sophomore Jody Connacher (Spokane, Wash.), but the Huskies pulled away to take the game. In game two, the Huskies hit .424 as a squad. Juniors Kaili Jordan (Raymore, Saskatchewan) and Leah Guidinger (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) each tallied nine kills for the Black Bears. Junior Shannan Fotter (Riverside, Calif.) chipped in with eight kills. Sophomore Shelly Seipp (Spokane, Wash.) had a match-high 37 assists and Connacher finished with five service aces. Whitney Turner paced Northeastern with a match-high 18 kills. Larissa Adomat added nine kills and Kira Batura posted seven kills. Bree Peterson recorded 35 helpers. The Black Bears return to the court on Saturday, hosting Hartford for a league match at 4 p.m.
