Volleyball Drops 3-0 Decision to Binghamton

ORONO, Maine - The University of Maine volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision to conference rival Binghamton University by a final score of 3-0 (26-30, 24-30, 14-30) on Friday night. Maine fell to 2-19 on the season and 1-7 in America East, while Binghamton improved to 15-14 and 6-2 in America East.

Maine was led in kills by junior Amanda Armstrong who tallied a co-match-high of 11. Classmate Lindsay Allman added nine kills of her own. Juniors Ashlee Wright and Allman led the Black Bears each with a co-match-high 13 digs. Junior Jessica Wolfenden recorded 26 assists for the Black Bears while freshman Paige Tortorello posted 10. Armstrong also blocked 6 attacks for Maine.

Binghamton was led in kills by Kathleen Schauer who posted a co-match-high of 11. The Bearcats were led in assists by Lindsay Mueller who totalled a match-high of 29. Jaclyn Strader tallied a co-match-high 13 digs.

In all three games it remained tight in from the get-go with neither team taking a large lead. In the first game the Bearcats broke away later in the game. But Maine was resilient and hung in there and closed the gap. But Binghamton eventually took the game by a score of 30-26. Maine tallied 18 kills to Binghamton's 14 in the game. The second game was even closer than the first but still Binghamton managed to pull away to win 30-24. In the third and final game, Binghamton had control the whole way. Maine managed to pull string some points together towards the end but the Bearcats were too powerful. Binghamton ended up taking the game and the match 30-14. Binghamton outblocked Maine 16-10 while Maine had 41 kills to Binghamton's 39.

The Black Bears' next match will be at home against conference rivals UMBC onSaturday October 27. The match will be at 7pm in the Pit. There will be a short ceremony before the match in honor of former Maine volleyball player Marina Ivankovic who passed away last Tuesday.
