Volleyball Loses Close Contest to UNH 3-2

Orono, Maine - The University of Maine volleyball team fell to New Hampshire in five sets despite several outstanding individual performances from Maine. The Wildcats (6-17, 3-4 AE) took a closely contested first set 21-25. The Black Bears (10-11, 3-4 AE) rallied back with wins in sets two and three by identical scores of 25-19. New Hampshire then knotted the match up with a 22-25 win in the fourth set before taking a 12-15 victory in the final set. Lindsay Allman (St. Louis, Mo.) had a fantastic day, leading Maine with 20 kills and 23 digs. Jessica Wolfenden (Ottawa, Ontario) had another great game, dishing out 42 assists, digging nine balls and serving four aces. Amy Lawson (Coeur D'Alene, Idaho) had 12 kills and three block assists. Ashlee Wright (Muncie, Ind.) had 16 digs. Brittany Kiehl (Virginia Beach, Va.) had seven kills and three block assists. Laura Goettsch (Woodstock, Ont.) amassed eight kills and five digs. The loss puts Maine back into a tie for fourth place, the final playoff spot, in America East with the Wildcats. The Black Bears have only five matches remaining. Maine host UMBC on Friday, October 31, at 5 pm. The Black Bears are eager to return home as they are 6-1 this season when playing in Orono.
