Black Bears Cruise Past UMBC

BALTIMORE, Md. - The University of Maine volleyball team improved to 14-9 overall and 6-3 in America East play, sweeping UMBC, 3-0 (30-28, 30-28, 30-26), Friday evening at RAC Arena. The Retrievers fall to 12-14 overall and 3-6 in the league. The Black Bears were paced by junior Shannan Fotter (Riverside, Calif.) and senior Brittany Howe (Columbia, Maine), who each tallied 12 kills. Junior Kaili Jordan (Raymore, Saskatchewan) added 11 kills. Sophomore Shelly Seipp (Spokane, Wash.) had a match-high 39 assists. UMBC was led by Jocelyn Teoh and Julia Hood. Each played had 14 kills. Maine sweeps the season-series with the Retrievers, after beating the squad at home on Oct. 9. The Black Bears continue their five-match league road swing on Saturday, playing host Stony Brook at 4 p.m.
