Volleyball Falls to Conference Rival Hartford 3-1

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - The University of Maine volleyball team dropped a match conference rival Hartford by a final score of 1-3 (27-30, 30-28, 20-30, 17-30) on Sunday afternoon. Maine fell to 3-21 on the season and 2-9 in America East, while Hartford improved to 8-21 and 1-9 in America East. Maine was led in kills by junior Margaret Page who tallied 14. Classmates Lindsay Allman and Laura Goettsch added 13 and 12 kills, respectively. Allman also added 13 digs for a double-double. Junior Ashlee Wright had a team high 14 digs for the Black Bears. Freshman Paige Tortorello recorded 41 assists for the Black Bears. Hartford was led in kills by Erin Macro who posted a match-high of 16. The Hawks were led in assists by Sarah Rasor who totalled a match-high 52. Lauren Flores tallied 18 digs while Rasor and Macro each had five blocked attacks for Hartford. The first game was extremely close between the two teams. One team would go on a run and then lose the serve and the other team would have a run of their own. It was close all the way down to the wire but Hartford squeeked out ahead 30-27. Maine had 13 kills to Hartford's 14. In the second game, it was close again. Maine manged to stay on top most of the way and evened the match with a score of 30-28. Maine led in kills in the game 18-14. The third game saw Maine looking to stay in it. But the Hawks took the game 30-20. The fourth game was all Hartford. The Hawks took the lead early and never looked back. The Black Bears ended up leaving the game and the match to the Hawks by a fourth game score of 30-17. Maine tallied 52 kills to Hartford's 59. The Black Bears had 50 digs compared to 56 for the Hawks.
The Black Bears' next match will be at home on Friday November 9 against conference rival Albany. It will be Maine's last home match and America East match of the season. --UM-- |
