Maine Digs Up Win Against Northeastern

BOSTON - Sophomore Shelly Seipp (Spokane, Wash.) had her second consecutive double-double with a match-high 64 assists plus 30 digs to lead the University of Maine volleyball team past host Northeastern, 3-1 (30-25, 30-28, 31-33, 30-25), Saturday evening at Solomon Court. With the victory, the Black Bears improve to 16-10 overall and 8-4 in America East play while the Huskies fall to 18-10 and 9-3 in the conference. Maine also earned a berth in the America East Championship for the first time since 2001, which will be held Nov. 19 and 20 at Albany.

Maine established a program single-match record with 118 defensive digs. Seipp's 30 digs were two away from the school record.

Junior Kaili Jordan (Raymore, Saskatchewan), one of four Black Bears to record a double-double, finished with 22 kills and 20 digs.

Behind junior Leah Guidinger's (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) five kills, the Black Bears hit .220 as a team to claim game one. Maine led by as many as a seven at 23-17.

In game four, the Black Bears led, 18-9, before Northeastern rallied to knot the game at 25. Maine responded, going on a 5-0 run to finish the contest with a 30-25 victory.

Guidinger recorded 17 kills and 12 digs. Senior Carmen Morgan (Watson, Saskatchewan) had 13 kills and added 23 digs. Fellow senior Brittany Howe (Columbia, Maine) totaled 13 kills.

The Huskies were led by Ashley Adamczyk, who broke the school record for most digs in a single match with 39. Kira Batura had 16 kills and 27 digs. Karrin Moore had 15 kills and Bree Peterson posted 58 assists.

 

 

Maine was playing its last contest in a five-match conference road swing.

Maine returns home next weekend to close out the regular season. The Black Bears will face Albany at 7 p.m. on Nov. 12 and will square off with Binghamton at 4 p.m. on Nov. 13. Admission to both matches at Memorial Gym is free.
