Volleyball Gets 3-0 Conference Win Over Hartford

West Hartford, Conn. - The University of Maine volleyball team scored a crucial conference win at Hartford in three sets (25-15, 25-21, 25-11), in the Black Bears third to final match of the year. Maine improves to 12-12 overall and 5-5 in conference. The Hawks drop to 6-22 overall and 0-9 in America East. The Black Bears were led by Laura Goettsch (Woodstock, Ontario) with 10 kills and six digs. Maine started the match with an aggressive offense that had a .333 hitting percentage and allowed the Black Bears to set the tone with a 25-15 victory. Hartford fought back in the second set, but couldn't match Maine offensively as they fell again 25-21. In the final set the Black Bears showcased one of their most efficient attacks of the season, landing a .500 hitting percent as they blew the Hawks away 25-11. Amy Lawson (Coeur D'Alene, Idaho) tallied eight kills with a .583 attack percentage. Lindsay Allman (St. Louis, Mo.) also notched eight kills and added six digs. Jessica Wolfenden (Ottawa, Ontario) dished out 29 assists and seven digs. Ashlee Wright (Muncie, Ind.) dug a team-high nine balls. With the win Maine moves into a tie with UMBC for third place in America East and now has a two-match lead on fifth place Stony Brook. With only two matches remaining, the Black Bears could clinch a play-off berth with a win at the Seawolves on Sunday, Nov. 9, at 1 pm.
