Nov. 11, 2005

Box Score

ALBANY, N.Y. - The University of Maine volleyball team dropped a 3-0 decision Friday night to Albany at the University Gymnasium in Albany, N.Y. The Great Danes, who improved to 25-3 overall and 10-1 in America East, won by scores of 30-23, 30-22 and 30-13. Maine, which fell to 10-12 and 7-4 in the league, had its four-match winning streak snapped.

Senior co-captain Kaili Jordan (Raymore, Saskatchewan) led the Black Bears with a match-high 11 kills and added three blocks. Freshman Amy Lawson (Coeur D'Alene, Idaho), who was named the America East Rookie of the Week earlier this week, added seven kills and two blocks. She now has 17 blocks in her last-three matches. Seniors Leah Guidinger (Prince Albert, Saskatchewan) and Shannan Fotter (Riverside, Calif.) chipped in six and five kills, respectively.

Ashlee Reed led Albany with 11 kills, as the Great Danes locked up the conference regular season championship and the right to host the conference tournament next weekend. Ashley Hunter, Shelby Goldman and Ashley Crenshaw each had nine kills.

Maine returns home Sunday for the regular-season finale at Memorial Gym. The Black Bears will play host to Stony Brook at 1 p.m., as the senior class of Fotter, Guidinger and Jordan will be honored afterwards. Maine will be looking to even the season series with the Seawolves, who pulled out a 3-2 win earlier this season in Stony Brook, N.Y.
