ALBANY, N.Y. - The University of Maine volleyball team concluded its 2005-06 season Friday night with a 3-1 loss to Binghamton in the semifinals of the America East Tournament at University Gym in Albany, N.Y. The Black Bears, who concluded the campaign with an 11-13 record, lost by scores of 28-30, 30-28, 26-30, 28-30.

Second-seeded Binghamton, which improved to 19-11, advanced to the tournament final Saturday night where it will face fourth-seeded Stony Brook. The Seawolves bounced top-seeded Albany from the tournament with a 3-2 victory earlier in the evening.

Playing in her final collegiate match, senior co-captain Kaili Jordan (Raymore, Saskatchewan) paced Maine with a team-high 21 kills. Classmate Shannan Fotter (Riverside, Calif.) added 12 kills while freshman Amy Lawson (Coeur D'Alene, Idaho) posted 11. The performances came a day after Jordan and Fotter were named to the All-America East First-Team, while Lawson was recognized on the All-Rookie Team.

Maine's other first-team selection, junior setter Shelly Seipp (Spokane, Wash.), recorded 49 assists, five service aces and three blocks.

The Bearcats were led with 13 kills apiece from Brianna Strong and Jacki Kane.

The loss brought to an end a final half of the season which saw Maine win 10-of-16 matches after opening the campaign with a 1-7 record. The Black Bears regrouped to finish third in the America East regular season standings and qualify for the league's tournament for the second-consecutive season. Maine went 8-4 in conference play this season with six of those wins coming via three-game sweeps.
