Volleyball Announces 2007 Schedule
June 13, 2007 ORONO, Maine - University of Maine volleyball head coach Lynn Atherley announced on Wednesday the 2007 schedule, which includes seven home matches and an early-season tournament at Memorial Gym. The season will begin with several tournaments, including the opener from Aug. 24-25 at the Ball State Tournament in Muncie, Ind. The Black Bears will take on host-school Ball State on Friday, and then face Ohio State and Missouri State on Saturday. The Black Bears will return home on Tuesday, Aug. 28 for a home match versus Northeastern, and remain home the following weekend for the Maine Volleyball Tournament on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1. Maine will face TCU and Cincinnati on Friday and then play host to TCU again on Saturday. The Black Bears will take to the road the following two weekends for tournaments, including the Yale Tournament on Sept. 7-8 and the URI Tournament from Sept. 14-15. Maine will face Sacred Heart, Rhode Island and Yale in the Bulldogs' tournament, while taking on Dartmouth, URI and Texas State in the Rams' tournament. Prior to the beginning of America East play, Maine will face the University of New Brunswick in an exhibition on Sept. 22 in Memorial Gym. The conference season will begin with four-straight road matches. Maine will face UMBC on Sept. 28, and then travel to Binghamton to face the Bearcats on Sept. 30. The following weekend, Maine will take on Albany on Oct. 7, and then travel to Durham, N.H., to face New Hampshire on Oct. 8. The schedule turns in Maine's favor, as the Black Bears return home for five-straight home matches during a three-week span. The homestand kicks off on Oct. 12, when the Black Bears play host to Hartford, and then take on Stony Brook on Oct. 14. Maine will play just one match the following weekend, as they will play host to New Hampshire on Oct. 20. The homestand will conclude with a pair of matches, including facing Binghamton on Oct. 26 and UMBC on Oct. 27. The Black Bears will enter the final month of the season with a pair of road matches, first versus Stony Brook on Nov. 2, and then taking on Hartford on Nov. 4. Maine will play host to Albany in the home finale on Nov. 9. The America East Tournament will be held on either Nov. 16-17 or Nov. 17-18 at the site of the regular season champion. The regular season champion will have the right to choose between the two dates due to possible scheduling conflicts with the arena. The top four teams in the standings following the regular season qualify for the championship. Maine will conclude the 2007 regular season on Nov. 23-24 at the Marquette Tournament in Milwaukee, Wis. Maine will face Marquette on Friday, and then take on South Dakota State on Saturday.
