In Memory of Marina Ivankovic

ORONO, Maine - Former University of Maine volleyball standout Marina Ivankovic passed away on Tuesday morning, Oct. 16, 2007, due to medical complications. She was 25 years old.

Ivankovic was a four-year letterwinner for the Black Bear volleyball program and helped lead the team to a pair of appearances in the America East Volleyball Tournament (2001 and 2004). She served as a senior tri-captain during the 2004 campaign.

"Marina truly was one of the most kind-hearted people I have ever met in my life," said Maine volleyball head coach Lynn Atherley. "She could take any situation, no matter how bad, and help everyone see the good in it."

In addition to her accomplishments on the court, Ivankovic was a standout in the classroom as she was named to the America East Academic Honor Roll once and was named a Maine Scholar-Athlete on three separate occasions.

A native of Stoney Creek, Ontario, Ivankovic graduated from Maine in May of 2004 with a bachelor's degree in business administration. She was working towards her master's during her senior season in Orono.
